It pains me, but I have to admire the Steelers

I respect a team that knows who it is.  Decades pass, coaches change, but you can count on the Steelers to operate a power run game, play great defence while blitzing like hell, be one of the toughest teams around, and win games.   The Pittsburgh front office deserves credit for having the guts to hire [...]

3-1 to the Arsenal

A good win over Hull.  Robin Van Persie is looking like the player we’d always hoped he would be – dangerous around the penalty area, lethal on free kicks, using his skills to create chances for teammates, and staying away from the injury list.  RvP assisted on all 3 Arsenal goals on Saturday:

A terrific corner [...]

So Gruden and Allen can’t keep their jobs

The Bucs just canned John Gruden and Bruce Allen but Dick Jauron keeps his job.  Gruden won a Super Bowl for the Bucs and has winning records the past 2 years, but it’s not good enough for Tampa Ownership.  Ralph Wilson, take note.

Those were some NFL Predictions

0 for 4.  The Giants run game stumbled at home against the Iggles.  The Chargers could not get off the field on 3rd down.  The Titans turned the ball over 3 times deep in Baltimore territory.  And Jake Delhomme single-handedly lost to the Cardinals.
What a disappointment for the Panthers, and it’s all on Delhomme, with [...]

1-Nil to the Arsenal

Well that won’t go down as the century’s most exciting football match, I can tell you that.  Watching Bolton play 10 men behind the ball all game was painful, but in truth Arsenal had to expect it.   Sub Nicklas Bendtner grabbed a late goal with a superb finish from a low Robin Van Persie cross [...]

Arsenal Transfer Rumour Review – Jan 6

Does the Arsenal need an arse-shaving – Andrei Arshavin, that is?  What a headline, “Arsene assigns Arshavin to Arsenal”.  If the oh-so-reliable British tabloids are to be believed, the Russian playmaker could be headed to London for as little as 10 million pounds, half the sticker price slapped on him by his current club Zenit.
In [...]

Panthers Playoff Preview

This week’s playoff match-up in Carolina between the Panthers and Cardinals is one of 4 rematches.  The Panthers escaped with a 4-point home win over Arizona back in October; they should win again this weekend.  Carolina is unbeaten at home this season and have had a week to rest.  I don’t think the Cards have [...]

If you don’t like the World Junior Hockey tournament…

… you should try watching some other sport.  I’ve said for years that this is the best hockey of the year and this year’s tournament has proven me right.  The NHL playoffs are great, but if your team lays an egg today they always have tomorrow.  In the single-elimination medal round of the WJHC, there’s [...]

Arsenal Transfer Rumour Review – Jan 5

1. Kolo Toure to Man City in a swap for Steven Ireland.  Ireland – are you fucking kidding me?  He’s not a bad player and Kolo is certainly on the outs at the Emirates, but Ireland’s hardly what the Arsenal need.  I’d much rather have Dunne (though Wenger will think he’s too slow) or Micah [...]

Fearless Predictions for 2009

1. Canada will defeat Sweden for the World Jr Hockey Gold Medal.
2. Florida will beat Oklahoma in the BCS title game.
3. Arsenal will use a weak Jan – Mar fixture list to nip Villa for 4th place in the Premiership.  Robin van Persie will break the 20-goal barrier for the first time in his career.
4. [...]
